Traffic Modifications for the 50th Annual Monument Lighting in Mount Vernon

Downtown Partnership is very excited to welcome Baltimore residents and visitors alike to the 50th Annual Monument Lighting Celebration, Presented by BGE, this Thursday evening. As always, the event will draw large crowds to Mount Vernon Place, and road closures will be necessary to ensure a safe an enjoyable event for all. Keep reading for more detailed information on these traffic modifications.

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists of the temporary road closures that will be implemented for the 50th annual lighting of the Washington Monument. The event will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021, rain or shine, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in historic Mount Vernon.

In preparation for the event, the following streets will be closed to through traffic with detours and parking restrictions in effect:

  • West Mt. Vernon Place from N. Charles to Cathedral Streets – 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2021
  • East Mt. Vernon Place from N. Charles to St. Paul Streets – Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • Charles Street from E. Centre to E. Madison Streets – Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.
  • Centre Street (south side only) from Cathedral to N. Charles Streets – Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 6:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for pedestrians attending the event and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.
