Downtown Baltimore is entering a new season — and it’s one designed with beauty, strategy, and sustainability in mind.
Downtown Partnership of Baltimore is leading a major refresh of the DPOB-branded planters across the 106-block Downtown Management Authority (DMA). The goal: a more unified, welcoming streetscape that reflects the energy of our neighborhoods and makes life downtown even more vibrant.
Our current planters tell a story — but it’s time for a new chapter. Over the years, different planter styles, colors, and placements have left our sidewalks feeling disconnected. Many are difficult to maintain, placed without strategy, or located in areas not suited for plant life. After thoughtful input from local landscape architects and urban design experts, we’re ready to reimagine how greenery shows up downtown.
We’re replacing all 260 existing planters with 425 new, thoughtfully placed planters — expanding both impact and beauty.
The project will roll out in two phases:
Standard planters will be installed in high-traffic corridors — sleek, modern, and designed for efficient maintenance.
Cluster planters will arrive next, adding dimension and bold groupings in key gateways, civic spaces, and areas that need more scale.
All planters will be placed curbside to keep our sidewalks walkable, safe, and photo-worthy.
We know how much these planters mean to our community — and we’re making this transition with intention and transparency. If you currently have a planter you’d like to keep, please submit your request by Friday, April 4.

This project isn’t just about greenery — it’s about pride, presence, and showing the world that Baltimore is always blooming. With each planter, we’re creating a stronger sense of place. One that looks good, feels good, and reflects who we are.
