Spring has certainly been in the air this week. You can even feel a sense of renewed energy as you walk the streets of Baltimore. The flowers are starting to bloom, people are calmer, dogs are as excited as ever. After what some might call a particularly challenging year, it seems we are all breathing a collective sigh of relief as vaccines become more widely distributed, restrictions continue to ease, and hours of daylight continue to increase. After a year like 2020, the inklings of good seem to be what continue to push us forward. This is why Downtown Partnership has decided to find small ways to highlight all of the positive things that are still happening in our Downtown neighborhoods. Enter “List of New,” a monthly segment where we’ll compile the bits and pieces of good news we are seeing, hearing, and tasting within the one-mile radius of Downtown Baltimore. We hope you enjoy our list for March.

 

Retail & Dining News

Motion Athletics hoodies and shirts on clothing rack and models in track jackets.

 

  • Hotel Revival has announced a new concept for their first-floor, dining space called “Dashery.” The breakfast-and-coffee shop will open sometime in the second quarter.
  • The Crafty Crab, a chain specializing in New Orleans- style seafood, has opened at 34 South Street.
  • Vegan Juiceology is making real progress with their buildout at Howard Row, and are working on setting up an outdoor seating area for the summer months.
  • Current Space Gallery has applied for a BD7 liquor license.
  • Motion Athletics has opened at 36 S. Calvert. They are an urban wear brand, and are also working with community partners to host yoga on the weekends.
  • Style Haven, a women’s fashion boutique, recently opened at 327 Park Avenue.
  • There is a growing number of minority and women owned clothing stores popping up in the Charles Center neighborhood. There has been talk in recent months about branding this area the Fashion/Garmet district in the future.

 

Events News

  • Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar, located under the JFX, will return on April 4.
  • Downtown Partnership’s State of Downtown Baltimore is being held virtually on April 13th this year, and includes insight from world-renowned urbanologist and author, Richard Florida.
  • The Pratt Street Market will return in May this year (date TBD) at Pratt & Charles. DPOB is currently accepting vendor applications. Apply today.
  • Free yoga classes will return to Center Plaza in May.
  • The Charles Street Promenade will return this spring (Date TBD).
  • Other small activations by Downtown Partnership coming this spring and summer include Barks & Booze, Pop-Up Fridays in Center Plaza, and some collaborative programming with the Bromo Arts District in the Meadow.
  • Art with a Heart will install a new public art piece on June 23 with a day of unveilings happening on Pratt Street.
  • Baltimore Summer Restaurant Week will be returning this year at the end of July. Dates TBD.
  • An in-person Monument Lighting celebration is scheduled for December 2 this year. A Covid safety call will be made by September.

 

Office News and New Leases

  • Vari, a modern, office furniture company just opened at 300 W. Pratt with over 2,500 sq ft of space.
  • Gallagher Evelius & Jones LLP is celebrating 60 years in Downtown and as a company.
  • Design Collective, a multi-disciplinary and award-winning design firm specializing in architecture, planning, interiors, landscape architecture, and graphics, is also in the market for a new lease in the CBD.
  • Byrnes & Associates has a number of smaller office spaces available for lease and is looking for smaller organizations, law firms, tech companies, etc. who may be in the market for a new space. Please keep their Redwood Exchange property in mind if your company is looking for a new, smaller office space to rent in the CBD.
