SUMMARY:Baltimore City Civil Rights Week 2026
DESCRIPTION:Baltimore’s Civil Rights Week has been more than an event. It has been a declaration\, a reminder that the work of equity is not finished\, and that our city refuses to wait. This year\, we go further. Civil Rights Week 2026\, hosted by Mayor Brandon M. Scott and the Baltimore City Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, moves beyond commemoration. Under the theme\, From Promise to Power\, this year’s convening is a call to action. From October 2 – 9\, civic leaders\, business executives\, scholars\, organizers\, philanthropists\, elected officials\, and everyday Baltimoreans will gather for a week of transformative events spanning youth empowerment\, public safety accountability\, fair labor\, disability rights\, maternal health\, and more. At a time when civil rights are being challenged\, dismantled\, and dismissed across this country\, Baltimore is choosing a different path. Under Mayor Scott’s leadership\, and through the work of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, this city continues to affirm that equity is not optional\, it is foundational. These events aim to celebrate the equitable advancement of Baltimore City while uniting community leaders\, residents\, scholars\, policymakers\, business leaders\, philanthropists\, and so many others. Across the country\, we are seeing growing attempts to dismiss systemic injustice\, defend exclusion\, and discredit diversity as a threat rather than one of our nation’s greatest strengths. Under Mayor Scott’s leadership\, and championed through the Baltimore City Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, Baltimore is boldly rejecting that narrative. We hope you will join us in supporting and uplifting this critical work for a better Baltimore!

SUMMARY:The Blackbyrds @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:THE BLACKBYRDS was formed in 1973 as part of the legendary jazz trumpeter Dr. Donald Byrd’s brainchild to expose college students to the real world of music. In his own words to “bridge the gap between academia and the real world.” Byrd envisioned taking active students at Howard University in Washington\, DC on a real world field trip which would expose them to ins and outs of the music business. The Blackbyrds went on to create an everlasting musical style that combined Classical\, Jazz\, Funk\, R&B\, and Gospel which introduced musical terms such as “crossover”\, “urban contemporary” and “easy-listening” to the music dictionary. \nKeystone Kards will not be accepted for this show. \nTickets HERE

SUMMARY:Dafnis Prieto Sí o Sí Quartet @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:25 years after his arrival in New York\, the GRAMMY-winning and Latin GRAMMY-nominated drummer\, composer\, and MacArthur Fellow Dafnis Prieto has utterly shifted the sonic landscape of the jazz and creative music scene. Since his 1999 arrival in New York\, he has also worked in bands led by Michel Camilo\, Chucho and Bebo Valdés\, Henry Threadgill\, Steve Coleman\, Eddie Palmieri\, Chico and Arturo O’Farrill\, Dave Samuels and the Caribbean Jazz Project\, Jane Bunnett\, D.D. Jackson\, Edward Simon\, Roy Hargrove\, Don Byron\, and Andrew Hill\, among others. \nWith Prieto’s appearance on the NYC jazz scene likened to “an asteroid hitting the city” (The New York Times)\, and a reputation that rightfully lauds him as “one of the most multidimensional artists working today” (JazzTimes)\, the Cuban drummer strikes once again with his 10th album\, 3 Sides of the Coin. This album marks the studio return of Prieto’s acclaimed Sí o Sí (“Yes or Yes”) Quartet\, a rightfully jubilant cohort brought together to commemorate both the bandleader’s quarter century in the United States and his 50th birthday. \nTickets HERE
