SUMMARY:Joshua Redman Quartet @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. The early influences of John Coltrane\, Ornette Coleman\, Cannonball Adderley\, and his father\, Dewey Redman\, as well as The Beatles\, Aretha Franklin\, the Temptations\, Earth\, Wind and Fire\, Prince\, The Police\, and Led Zeppelin drew Joshua more deeply into music. After graduating from Harvard College with a B.A. in Social Studies\, he had already been accepted by Yale Law School\, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year to join friends in Brooklyn. Redman almost immediately found himself immersed in the New York jazz scene. In November 1991\, five months after moving to New York\, Redman was named the winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. \nKeystone Kards are not applicable for this show. \nTickets HERE

SUMMARY:Jeff Bradshaw & Friends Birthday Celebration feat. Tom Browne @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:North Philadelphia-born soul-jazz and hip-hop/funk innovator and trombone virtuoso\, Jeff Bradshaw has been at the center of the Neo-soul movement that emerged out of Philadelphia. Becoming an important influencer of that eclectic scene\, he has shared the stage and recorded with many artists including\, Michael Jackson\, Earth Wind & Fire\, Jay Z\, Mary J Blige\, Erykah Badu\, The Roots\, Kirk Franklin\, Tyler Perry\, Floetry\, Dave Chappelle\, Common\, Patti Labelle\, Jill Scott\, and many more. Like recent best-sellers by Robert Glasper\, his two acclaimed solo albums have delivered a unique fusion of R&B\, Jazz and Gospel. His warm and tantalizing sound and smooth yet gripping performances have changed the way people view the Trombone\, and are what people enjoy most about this Philly Soul/Jazz Man! \nWith over four decades of recordings and sharing the concert stage with luminary figures of jazz music\, multi-gold album\, Billboard “Best Of” awards recipient and trumpeter Tom Browne continues to captivate listeners. Tom is perhaps best known for what music icon George Benson said of his “believability in any musical style; his ability to communicate!” This ability to emerse ones-self into the musical era\, style and dreamscape of a composition\, and then artistically create as though you are perfectly at home in that location\, is a rarity among musicians. Tom has certainly worked with the industry’s best and brightest\, having shared the concert stage with Bob James\, Dave Grusin\, Najee\, Roy Ayers\, Joe Sample\, Melba Moore and a host of others. \nKeystone Kards are not applicable for this show. SUMMARY:Gunhild Carling & The Wonderful World of Louis Armstrong @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:A jazz pioneer\, Louis Armstrong was the first important soloist to emerge in jazz\, and he became the most influential musician in the music’s history. As a trumpet virtuoso\, his playing charted a future for jazz in highly imaginative\, emotionally charged improvisation. But Armstrong also became an enduring figure in popular music due to his distinctively phrased baritone singing and engaging personality\, which were on display in a series of vocal recordings and film roles. His biggest hits include “What A Wonderful World\,” “La Vie En Rose\,” “Summertime\,” “West End Blues\,” “When You’re Smilin’\,” “Blueberry Hill\,” “Hello\, Dolly!” and more. \nGunhild Carling is the epitome of joy in everything she does as a dazzling singer\, dancer\, and multi-instrumental genius. This International Jazz star plays several instruments such as trombone\, trumpet\, recorder\, bagpipe\, harmonica\, drums and piano\, and has toured extensively around the world with her Swedish Family and other All Star Bands. She was featured in several of Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox’s adaptations of pop songs\, which include a jazz swing version of Rick Astley’s “Never Going to Give You Up”\, a 1920s jazz swing version of “Material Girl”\, a vintage jazz version of Europe’s “The Final Countdown”\, a jazz cover of Pharrell Williams’ “Happy”\, and a 1920s hot jazz cover of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”. \nTickets HERE

SUMMARY:Greg Hatza ORGANization w/ Peter Fraize\, Brian Kooken & Robert Shahid @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:In 1994\, Greg met Joey DeFranscesco who told him the Hammond B-3 was enjoying a popular renaissance.  He formed the Greg Hatza ORGANization and has been performing and recording on the instrument non-stop since that time. With the trend towards more advanced electronic keyboard and rhythms now\, Greg adapted to the trend\, switching from the Hammond B-3 to the electric keyboard and piano. \nIn the late sixties\, Baltimore was still an organ town and had its share of great players. It was here that Greg really got a chance to hone his jazz organ skills by playing with the best musicians in town. Lenny’s club was a great stopping point for national jazz artists who came to Baltimore to perform. He also met and got to play in jam sessions with such personalities as Kenny Burrell\, Groove Holmes\, Damita Joe\, Philly Joe Jones\, Roland Kirk\, Les McCann\, James Moody\, and Sonny Stitt. \nTickets HERE
