His repertoire is a fusion of contemporary\, straight-ahead\, gospel\, R&B\, original compositions that herald a new era/bring a new vision for jazz characterized by authenticity\, resilience\, and unwavering faith. In 2023\, Kevin founded his group\, “Black Renaissance\,” a collective dedicated to propelling the narrative of Black American Music into new uncharted territories. \nKevin’s musical education has been enriched by encounters with jazz artists such as Bob Nixon\, Diego Rivera\, and Vincent Herring\, each leaving an outstanding mark on his artistic development. Kevin has had the honor of participating in the prestigious programs that include the donor-funded 2024 JAS Academy featuring Artistic Director Christian Mcbride\, the Gathering Nonet Jazz ensemble\, an outreach program formed by the late great Detroit jazz pianist Geri Allen\, and the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra directed by Gerald Clayton. Kevin has played alongside distinguished artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington\, Patrice Rushen\, Jazzmeia Horn\, Christian Sands\, and Immanuel Wilkins through these programs. Kevin is beginning his graduate studies at John Hopkins Peabody Conservatory. She fell in love with jazz around the age of 12 when she heard a recording of Nat King Cole singing\, “Nature Boy.” Maya has sung at amazing jazz venues on the East coast and performed at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in her hometown at the age of 17. In 2022\, Maya was a part of the Boysie Lowery Living Residency\, working with some of the jazz industry’s finest and attend different songwriting workshops. That same year Maya was also accepted to be apart of Jazz Philadelphia’s CORE Cooperative. Recently\, she was invited to sing internationally for a residency at the prestigious “Bamboo Bar” in Bangkok\, Thailand\, from March-June 2024. SUMMARY:Joshua Redman Quartet @ Keystone Korner
DESCRIPTION:Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. The early influences of John Coltrane\, Ornette Coleman\, Cannonball Adderley\, and his father\, Dewey Redman\, as well as The Beatles\, Aretha Franklin\, the Temptations\, Earth\, Wind and Fire\, Prince\, The Police\, and Led Zeppelin drew Joshua more deeply into music. After graduating from Harvard College with a B.A. in Social Studies\, he had already been accepted by Yale Law School\, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year to join friends in Brooklyn. Redman almost immediately found himself immersed in the New York jazz scene. In November 1991\, five months after moving to New York\, Redman was named the winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. \nKeystone Kards are not applicable for this show. \nTickets HERE
