DESCRIPTION:Baltimore’s Civil Rights Week has been more than an event. It has been a declaration\, a reminder that the work of equity is not finished\, and that our city refuses to wait. This year\, we go further. Civil Rights Week 2026\, hosted by Mayor Brandon M. Scott and the Baltimore City Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, moves beyond commemoration. Under the theme\, From Promise to Power\, this year’s convening is a call to action. From October 2 – 9\, civic leaders\, business executives\, scholars\, organizers\, philanthropists\, elected officials\, and everyday Baltimoreans will gather for a week of transformative events spanning youth empowerment\, public safety accountability\, fair labor\, disability rights\, maternal health\, and more. At a time when civil rights are being challenged\, dismantled\, and dismissed across this country\, Baltimore is choosing a different path. Under Mayor Scott’s leadership\, and through the work of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, this city continues to affirm that equity is not optional\, it is foundational. These events aim to celebrate the equitable advancement of Baltimore City while uniting community leaders\, residents\, scholars\, policymakers\, business leaders\, philanthropists\, and so many others. Across the country\, we are seeing growing attempts to dismiss systemic injustice\, defend exclusion\, and discredit diversity as a threat rather than one of our nation’s greatest strengths. Under Mayor Scott’s leadership\, and championed through the Baltimore City Office of Equity and Civil Rights\, Baltimore is boldly rejecting that narrative. We hope you will join us in supporting and uplifting this critical work for a better Baltimore!

DESCRIPTION:Award-winning vocalist\, composer and music educator\, G. Thomas Allen (affectionately called “Sir Thomas Allen”) brings a unique approach to the genre with his soul-infused phrases\, paired with improvisation from modern-day stylizing to straight-ahead\, classic jazz. His four-octave range and warm timbre are second-to-none and often compared to the likes of the iconic Philip Bailey. \nThomas’ work spans multi-genres\, as a former Principal Artist of Los Angeles Opera and lead singer on GRAMMY-nominated album “Choirmaster” (Motown Gospel 2020). He has worked with the late David Baker\, jazz educator and conductor of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra\, guest soloist with the Black Pearl Chamber Ensemble\, Royal Melbourne Philharmonic\, and former member of Soulful Symphony. Other noted collaborations: Marquis Hill\, Pharez Whitted\, and the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers. He has appeared on National Public Radio (NPR) and Cable Network News (CNN)\, and performed at some of the top concert halls in America\, including The Kennedy Center\, NJPAC\, and Carnegie Hall. \nTickets HERE
