Baltimore Rock Opera Society Will Bring Next Show Love & ROAR! to Downtown Pop-Up Venue
Local theater community The Baltimore Rock Opera Society (BROS) will bring their next original production, “Love & ROAR!,” to the downtown Baltimore area at a new pop-up venue in the former First Union National Bank location at 1 E Baltimore Street. “Love & ROAR!” opens November 4th at 8 PM and runs each weekend through November 19th.
General admission tickets for “Love & ROAR!” are now on sale for $20, and there are also Supporter Seats and Super Supporter seats with additional perks available for $50 and $100, respectively. The runtime is two hours including a 15-minute intermission.
About Love & ROAR!
“Love & ROAR!” will be the BROS’ second original production this year following “Glitterus: Dragon Rising” earlier this spring, and before that a several-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show has been in production since 2021, and is described as “a Broadway-style original rock musical that pays homage to both American romantic comedy films and Japanese giant monster movies.” The story is set in the idyllic Bay City in the 1950s, which suddenly comes under attack by giant kaiju. The hero, Mary Ekhart, discovers an ancient power that allows her to become the bridge between humans and monsters and finds that everyone, even giant monsters, is just looking for love. The production will feature live music from the local band Thrillkiller, extensive puppet work, and live cinema using miniature sets and video projection.
About the Venue
The former First Union National Bank location has been mostly vacant since the branch closed in 1999 and is being provided as a temporary venue to BROS’ by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, which currently leases the building. The all-volunteer theater company is currently preparing the space for the show with its own stage, sets, band pit, and front-of-house area. BROS’ Executive Director Aran Keating is looking forward to the opportunity to bring BROS’ unique theater talents to a new location.
About Baltimore Rock Opera Society
The Baltimore Rock Opera Society is a passionate community of artists who create unforgettable experiences through live original rock theater. BROS was founded by a small group of friends sitting in a basement dreaming of an impossibly enormous story that would be told through the awesome power of rock. That dream eventually became Gründlehämmer, the first BROS production that premiered in 2009 to rave reviews and sold-out crowds. BROS continued to chase that success, and over the last ten years has produced original shows annually that have drawn an audience of over 20,000 people. Composed of a highly energetic group of actors, writers, designers, builders, musicians, and artists with the mission of producing original, live rock musicals, BROS has become a powerhouse of Baltimore’s cultural landscape as the city’s most collaborative, creative production troupe.
