When you think about Downtown Baltimore, you probably picture the buildings that make up our distinctive skyline. But the space between the buildings is just as important. From streetscaping to building and maintaining public parks, our teams are always busy.
Parks We Manage
Downtown Partnership is responsible for the maintenance and activation of the following spaces. We landscape and plant flowers, pick-up trash, deploy safety patrols, oversee renovations and capital improvements, and activate the parks with regular events.
Center Plaza
Center Plaza, located at 100 N. Charles Street, is an important gateway linking the Charles Center neighborhood to the Bromo Arts District. Center Plaza is home to outdoor events year round including craft markets, Pints in the Park, free Saturday yoga classes, and the occasional acoustic musician.
Preston Gardens
Located along St. Paul Street between Centre Street and Lexington Street, the historic park gets lots of use from employees at Mercy Hospital and nearby residents. Lighting was added by Downtown Partnership and City DOT under the viaduct in 2015, and major restoration of the wall along upper St. Paul occurred in 2016.
Hopkins Plaza
Hopkins Plaza is located on Charles Street between Lombard and Baltimore Streets. This hidden gem is home to outdoor art, a magnificent fountain, and tree-lined pathways. Enjoy al fresco lunch at the many tables or the occasional after party thrown by the Baltimore Bike Party.
Liberty Park Dog Walk
The park is located near the Baltimore Arena, bounded by Liberty Street, Park Avenue and Fayette Street. It features decomposed granite that is easy on the pups paws, doggy bags, and a drinking feature.
McKeldin Square
Beautifully renovated in 2019, this plaza features a brand new, lighted, water misting fountain and historical markings. This important space is often viewed as the unofficial welcome to Downtown Baltimore.
The Meadow
An expansive green public space in a vacant lot situated in the Bromo Arts District. This welcoming, grassy, natural place was created for people to picnic, for small businesses to host pop-ups, and for residents to gather and hold events. The Meadow features 20 small picnic tables and additional seating, shade sails, lighting, a shipping container for storage and branding, and wildflowers designed in a way to create outdoor “rooms.” It was designed to bring the two districts together—physically and socially—amid the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
The Parks Team, which also supports the Public Maintenance Division of the DMA, employs 6 Park Stewards and 3 Park Leaders who are responsible for beautifying and maintaining designated downtown parks and public spaces.
